Pioneer Milestones:
The setting up of a training course for teachers of the deaf based on the curriculum of the Manchester School for the Deaf, England . The teacher graduates of the programme have set up the first oral schools for the deaf all over India .
In 1963 the E.A.R. strongly advocated auditory training and the use of hearing aids on even the youngest child, to maximize residual hearing in deaf children.
In 1976, E.A.R. brought to India a focus on early intervention, using Doreen Pollock's Acoupedic approach and parent participation.
In 1995, E.A.R launched the Neo-Natal Hearing screening project, where hearing loss could be detected in new born babies and counseling and treatment could begin at the earliest age. |
